The special features of Azhagi software

Viswanathan fondly known as Vishy has developed the most versatile and extremely smooth amazing Tamil software "Azhagi" with which everyone who knows Tamil and/or English typing as well as a novice who do not know any typing can create Tamil contents in it's own screen and all external applications including all windows applications of the computer. Azhagi provides it's own screens to type contents in TSC and Unicode along with 'TSC to Unicode' conversion facility apart from the facility to type in external applications in both TSC and Unicode.

Alternative keyboard layouts including Phonetic, Tamil99, Typewriter traditional and Typewriter computerised are available in Azhagi in addition to the unique learner's or Tutirs Tamil keypad with which one can get Tamil letters using mouse clicks without having to type in the keyboard.

Azhagi presents dual and single screen options for typing in TSC. The typed english letters are displayed in the upper half of the screen and the transliterated Tamil text is displayed in the lower half when typing in the dual screen mode. Only the transliterated Tamil text is displayed in the single screen mode.

A table indicating all the English-to-Tamil phonetic keymappings for use with the phonetic keyboard layout is displayed at the lower portion of Azhagi screen to help the user become familiar with the keys to type to get different Tamil letters. This table can be arranged in the horizontal as well as vertical format as needed and be closed to obtain a wider screen area once the keymappings are familiar. The keymappings are so natural that one can familiarize them very fast and type further without referring to the tables.

The keymappings are simplified and made easy with flexibility giving many alternative keystrokes for each letter thereby minimizing the occasions requiring the use of the shift key and upper case letters while typing for example the tamil word ஸ்ரீதர் can be obtained by typing sridhar, srithar, sreedhar, sreethar and words like நீங்க, விஸ்வம், கஸ்தூரி, பொய், மஞ்சு, கற்று are obtainable by typing neenga, viswam, nandri, kasthoori, poi, katru which are the most natural english letters that occur to one's mind as equivalent to the respective tamil letters. Apart from transliteration Azhagi offers the facility for reverse transliteration of converting the tamil text into the equivalent pheoetic english text and autotransliteration of text already saved from web pages and MS word documents without having to type again. Azhagi provides a unicode editor in which one can directly type contents in unicode and a unicode conversion facility to convert contents in TSC to unicode. Facility for auto-insertion of texts such as quotes etc. in all windows applications by the press of a key and word count in tamil are available in Azhagi. The popup display of the transliterated text for the english text any open application is enabled.

Direct typing in Tamil in applications including MS word, power point, notepad, wordpad, Outlook express and internet explorer are possible with Azhagi in unicode apart from being able to type contents in TSC as well.
