A letter written by 8 year old US born Indian girl

American and Indian Schools

Hello Friends,

I am Pooja Iyer again. Hope you all remember my first letter about my first India trip. It is yet to complete. After sending you that letter I had my exams and my summer holidays started only by the end of May. So I was too busy in reviewing my lessons once again. Here comes some news about our schools. Our schools are different from your schools. We do not go home for lunch. We stay at school for lunch. Our school starts at Nine in the morning. We go home at 4-00P.M. in the evening. Some schools have their uniforms too. At lunch we are used to eat bread, fruits, vegetable salads and drink milk, water or fruit juice. You are permitted to sit with your parents if they come. At luch we sit and talk and eat. Then we will go back to our classrooms and learn a little more. Then for a little while we will go outside for refreshing us. After that again we will come to our classes and learn more. We have homework too. At 4-00 PM we will go home by school bus, or in our own car, our parents will come to pick us .We have three and a half months leave for summer vocation. The teachers are very nice. The school will again start on August 8th.

Here you can start with the pre school. Then there you can learn the "abcs" and the "123s". Then you will go to the elementary school and learn how to do maths, spelling, reading, science, sociall studies and languages. I took spanish as my second language. I will talk to you again soon with more details. And one more good news is that I just had a baby sister, and her name is Anjali and she is 40 days old. I am playing with her and helping my mummy while she is taking care of the baby. Bye for now and will meet soon. We just shifted to a new house also. Here there is more space to play. Bye folks.

Pooja.
